Buying service for a leave

Learn more about leave types, purchase options, the value of purchasing service, costs, and deadlines.

Process: lump-sum payment

You can buy service for any leave type by making a one-time payment after you return from your leave.

  1. Check your eligibility

Review which leaves you can buy and deadlines.

  2. Estimate the cost

Go to My Account and use the Purchase Cost Estimator to get a cost and learn how buying service may impact your pension.

  3. Complete the application

Download the Purchase of Service Application and complete Part A.

  4. Send the application to your employer

Your employer completes Part B and submits the application to the plan.

If your leave was taken in multiple periods, you may need to submit a separate application for each period. Confirm with your employer what’s required.

If your leave was with a former employer:

    • Send the application to them first to complete their sections. They’ll return the form to you to send to your current employer.
  5. Review your statement

You’ll receive a Statement of Cost. You’ll get an email when it’s available in My Account Message Centre. If you’re not registered for My Account, we’ll mail it to you.

    The statement will show:

    • The amount owing
    • Payment options
    • Due date
  6. Make payment

Send payment to the plan by the due date listed on your statement.

Once we process your payment, the service will be visible in My Account under Service and salary summary.
