In January 2026, the Public Service Pension Board of Trustees announced enhanced early retirement provisions for eligible BC wildfire fighters.

The enhanced early retirement provisions for wildfire fighters include:

• A new earliest retirement age
• Qualifying for an unreduced pension at an earlier age
• Improved early retirement reductions

To put these changes into effect, the plan established a wildfire fighter public safety group.

These changes apply to service earned as a wildfire fighter on or after April 1, 2026. If these changes apply to you, you’ll see the impact on your 2027 Member’s Benefit Statement.

If you retired or terminated employment with the BC Wildfire Service before April 1, 2026, you are not affected by this change.
