Buying past service
Learn about buying service for eligible periods of employment that occurred before you or your employer joined the College Pension Plan
For past service with a former registered pension plan
Complete Part A of the Past Service Purchase Application (Former RPP) and send it to your former registered pension plan (RPP) or plan administrator. They will complete Part B and return the form to you. You can submit the completed application, including a copy of your valid ID, using My Account Message Centre.
If your former RPP is administered by BC Pension Corporation, the completed application will not be returned to you. They will submit the form to the plan on your behalf.
For past service with a College Pension Plan employer
Complete Part A of the Past Service Purchase Application and send it to the employer where the service occurred. They’ll complete Part B and forward it directly to the plan. You can submit valid proof of age (ID) to the plan securely using My Account > My profile > Personal information.
Deadline to apply
You apply to buy past service at any time while you’re an active member of the College Pension Plan. You must ensure the application is submitted to the College Pension Plan no later than 30 days after terminating all employment under the plan. It may take up to 60 days to receive the completed application from your former RPP so we recommend starting this process early.

- Follow the instructions listed on the Statement of Cost.
Important
- The Statement of Cost is valid for 90 days.
- Payment(s) must be received by the due date listed.
- RRSP or RPP transfers can take 8–10 weeks to reach the College Pension Plan. Start the process with your financial institution as soon as possible to ensure your payment(s) arrives by the due date.
Requesting an updated Statement of Cost
Due date expired
- Send the first page of your statement to your current employer; they will complete and submit it to the plan.
- If you want an estimate for a partial amount, send us the request in writing indicating the amount of money you’re considering using to buy service. We will provide additional information estimating how that amount could increase your pension.
Due date valid
- If the deadline on your statement has not passed, and you want an estimate for a partial amount, send us the request in writing indicating the amount of money you’re considering using to buy service. We will provide additional information estimating how that amount could increase your pension.
