BC General Employees’ Union labour disruption
Service update: Labour disruptions at BC General Employees’ Union and Canada Post
Due to the ongoing BCGEU labour action, we continue to limit our essential services to urgent, time-sensitive priority requests. Rotating Canada Post strikes may also delay the receipt of paperwork and outgoing mail.
Our priorities are:
- Monthly pension payments
- October and November retirement applications
- Death benefits
- Banking updates
- Shortened life expectancy payouts for October and November
Key impacts:
- Submitted requests via email or Message Centre – If you have submitted a request to us and it is not on the priority list above, it will not be actioned until after the BCGEU labour disruption has ended.
- Contact Centre closure – Our Contact Centre is currently closed as a direct result of the BCGEU job action. We encourage members and the public to use alternative support channels to contact us, as listed on our contact page. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
- Pension payments – Pension payments will continue as scheduled via direct deposit.
- Mail delivery is delayed – BCGEU labour disruption may impact the ability for mail to be received, and outgoing mail – delivery of printed cheques – may be delayed.
- My Account is available – Members are encouraged to use the Message Centre via My Account to send and receive documents securely.
Your experience is important to us. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
This page will be updated as new information becomes available.

Seeking Health Coverage in Retirement
The Municipal Retiree Benefit Trust (MRBT) supports more than 90,000 retired members of the Municipal Pension Plan (MPP) with access to extended health and dental benefits. We are committed to the long-term sustainability of the health benefits plan, supporting current and future retirees.
- Benefits supplement your provincial healthcare
- Our group buying power helps support lower premiums compared to similar options in the individual market
- You may be eligible for reduced extended health premiums based on your years of pensionable service
- When planning for retirement, it's important to understand that retiree benefit plans differ from active employee coverage and may include different limits and services
Most plan members are not eligible to participate in the Canadian Dental Care Plan
If you are considering cancelling or declining dental coverage under the Municipal Retiree Benefit Trust (MRBT) to enrol in the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), please note that most Municipal Pension Plan members are not eligible to participate in the CDCP. Furthermore, if you cancel dental coverage, you will not be eligible to re-enrol under the terms of the MRBT dental plan.
You can find more information about retirement health coverage through MRBT here.
Read a message from the MRBT board about the CDCP.
